Legal Assistant Job Description
Council on Immigrant Relations (CIR) is a faith-based, non-profit organization that provides legal services, community programs, and advocacy, to and for immigrants throughout the state. CIR currently has offices in Raleigh, Lincolnton, and Hickory, North Carolina which are managed by different teams. With a dedicated staff of 5 across each of these offices, and an active pro bono panel of 2 private attorneys, we are able to provide legal services to more than 500 people each year.
CIR is seeking a full-time person for our Raleigh office. This position will coordinate day-to-day office operations while also supporting clients, legal team members, and volunteers. Applicants should be passionate about promoting justice for marginalized people, be a self-starter, organized, flexible under pressure, be a team player, and be committed to serving and supporting immigrant and refugee communities.

Required Skills and Abilities
- Fluency in Spanish and English (written and verbal)
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Self-motivated, able to work independently
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Basic IT functions related to computers and copier and comfort with programs such as- Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat, Zoom, Skype, etc.
- Familiarity with Quickbooks is an asset
Primary Job Duties
Legal Case Management 65%
- Process client files and collate legal documentation
- Submit case processing forms to USCIS
- Communicate with clients about case progress
- Complete client screening interviews and client consultations
Financial Bookkeeping 10%
- Complete accounting tasks- create invoices, receive payments, and issue receipts
- Receive and scan bills to accounting software for various vendors
- Prepare deposits and deliver deposits to the bank
- Record donations and send acknowledgments to donors
Office Administration 25%
- Answer calls, forward messages and schedule appointments
- Order supplies and inventory
*Complete other duties as assigned from time to time
Anticipated Work Schedule
- Hours required: 35 – 40 hours.with option for remote work
- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
- Hours of availability: 9:30 am- 5 pm, with evening availability.
Salary/Benefits
- $30,000 - $35,000/ year
